Finding controversial topics in higher education
Three ways to look
1: Browsing
One way to look for issues browse in a news source that covers higher education. Chronicle of Higher Education is a weekly publication that you can find under "C" on the periodicals shelves
You can also browse a publication electronically in Professional Development Collection, an Ebscohost database that covers education periodicals. After opening a connection to the database, click the "Publications" link in the blue toolbar banner. ![]()
You can click on About Campus or search in the Browsing space (next to the Browse button) and look for "Chronicle of higher education." In either case, after clicking on the title of the publication, click the link next to the words "Full text:." You will be able to look at all the available articles.
2. Using a source that specializes in controversy
There are two sources in which you can look for a topic. Both work the same way.
All subjects covered in these periodicals are controversial. Type "college" or "campus" into the search space to view a list of articles. If the article is not recent, but the topic is still pertinent, you may search for that topic in Professional Development Collection or Education Full Text.
3. Searching in an education database
It is possible to do a search in an education database that will pull up mostly news about campus controversies. Here is an example in Professional Development Collection:
