How to use the Library Ctalog

You can start a keyword search on the library's home page by typing in a word or phrase and clicking the Go button. Or you can visit the catalog home page at

  1. Select Search Type
    From the basic search screen, select the type of search you would like to do. The default search is by Keyword. More specific searches Title/Series Title, Author, Subject, and Call Number are in the browse tab.. Advanced search choices are also available.

  2. Enter your search terms
    Enter the terms appropriate for the type of search you have selected. If you are searching by Title, you do not have to enter the entire title, just the first few words of the title. After entering your terms, click on the Search button.

  3. Look through your results
    For a keyword search, the list of results is sorted in order of relevance to your search words. For an author, title, or subject search, the results are listed alphabetically. Click on the title of the item to see more information.

  4. Check location information
    This screen will tell you which libraries have copies of the item. If an item has CCC under Location, it is owned by the Chemeketa Community College library. This screen also includes the Dewey Decimal call number that indicates where the item is located on the shelf. If an item is checked out, the due date will be shown under Status. (Electronic books do not have a call number. The book information screen includes a link to the e-book.)

  5. Examine the item description
    The Details tab contains a more complete description of the item. Library of Congress Subject Headings for the item are listed there. Clicking on a subject heading will perform a search for other items in the system with the same subject heading.

You can request items from another library in the system, and they will be sent to your library. Instructions for requesting books are available.

The catalog has online help. For further tips on how to use the catalog, click on the Help link near the top of the catalog screen.
