Services for Borrowers

Chemeketa students & employees, as well as members of the public, can borrow materials from our library

You can use either a Chemeketa ID card, a Chemeketa Virtual ID, or a CCRLS Partners Card to check out materials. (Instructions for obtaining Virtual ID) Students from colleges and universities in the Orbis Cascade Alliance (Summit libraries) may borrow materials at Chemeketa by registering as a visiting patron. 

Chemeketa participates in the Oregon Library Passport program. Patrons from Passport libraries may obtain a card at Chemeketa to check out ten items at a time. Passport borrowers must return the books at Chemeketa's library.

Length of checkout:

  • Books - 4 weeks 
  • Magazines & journals - 1 week
  • Circulating media - 4 weeks
  • Laptops - 1 term

You may renew material up to two times if no one else has requested it:

Library Fines:

  • $0.25 per day for late returns of books, magazines, and media (including Reserves, CCRLS Bridge, ILL and Summit)
  • $0.25 per hour for 2 and 4 hour checkout

Additional Fees:

  • $5 fee once item rolls to lost- Lending Library and Class Sets
  • $5 fee once item rolls to lost- Netbook/Laptop/Chromebook and Computer Equipment
  • $5 fee once item rolls to lost- all other lost items

Obtaining a Library Card

  • How Can I Obtain a Chemeketa Student Card?
    • Your Virtual student ID  or older student ID card is your library card
      • Instructions for obtaining Virtual ID
      • Students who do not have a smartphone can obtain a physical ID from the Public Safety office (Salem, 2/173) or from the main desk at Yamhill Campus
    • You do not need a student ID for remote access and requesting. You will need a digital or physical student ID card to check out materials you have requested and to use the computers in the Student Computer Center
    • Use your regular Chemeketa single sign on login to sign into our Primo Library Search or access databases
    • CCRLS public library cards can be used to request public library books or obtain a Partners' card. For information about obtaining cards, please see the Borrower Services page
    • Your ID is valid during any term in which you are a student
  • How can I obtain a Chemeketa Employee Card?
    • Your employee ID card is your Chemeketa library card
    • You can obtain a free Chemeketa employee ID through the Public Safety Office in Building 2 on the Salem campus
    • You will need to ask your supervisor to fill out a key request form for you in advance
    • There is a charge to replace a lost ID card
    • Your employee ID card allows you to check out materials, request materials within the Summit system, request interlibrary loans, and use a student computer
  • How can an area resident obtain a Public Library Card?

    You can apply for a temporary Public Library Card online. Within 30 days you must complete the process at the library that serves the place where you reside. You will need to bring  picture ID (such as a valid Oregon driver's license or Oregon ID card.)  The ID must have your current home address on it. 

    Anyone living inside Marion, Polk, or Yamhill County can get a Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service (CCRLS) card. However, there are many types of cards depending on where you live. To find out more about these cards we recommend asking your local public library.

    Important Information about Your Public Library Card:

    • Items checked out on your card are your responsibility
    • If you lose your card, please contact any CCRLS public library immediately; you will be held responsible for any items checked out. There may be a charge for replacement cards.
  • How can a student not residing in a CCRLS municipality obtain a Public Library Card?

    Students living outside the city limits or outside the Chemeketa district may take their Chemeketa Student ID and proof of class registration to a local CCRLS public library to receive a 25 item library card good for the current term. This card must be renewed each term.

    • If you lose your card, please contact any CCRLS public library immediately; you will be held responsible for any items checked out. There may be a charge for replacement cards.
  • How can a Chemeketa employee obtain a Public Library Card?

    Chemeketa employees living within the CCRLS district may obtain a card by following the procedures for area residents, above. Employees living outside the district may take their Chemeketa ID card, proof of employment, and driver's license to a local CCRLS public library to receive a limited access library card. This card allows 10 items to be checked out, 10 holds, and can be renewed every September.

  • How can a member of the public obtain a card from Chemeketa's Library?

    Public patrons with a valid CCRLS public library card can register at the Salem campus library for a CCRLS Partners card. This card allows the ability to check out books and media from the college collection. To register as a CCRLS partner, you must present picture identification and your CCRLS public library card.

    Children under 16 with a CCRLS CARE or Teen card can also obtain a CCRLS Partners Kid card. This card gives the ability to check out books from our Children's, Graphic Novel, and Adult literacy collections. This card does not allow access to computers. To register for a CCRLS Partners Kid card, parents must show picture ID and their children's public library card.

    Outside the CCRLS area? Chemeketa participates in the Oregon Library Passport program. Patrons from Passport libraries may obtain a card at Chemeketa to check out ten items at a time. Passport borrowers must return the books at Chemeketa's library. Not all libraries participate in the Passport program.
