Services for Borrowers

You can use either a Chemeketa ID card or a CCRLS Partners Card to check out materials. Students from colleges and universities in the Orbis Cascade Alliance (Summit libraries) may borrow materials at Chemeketa by registering as a visiting patron.

Chemeketa participates in the Oregon Library Passport program. Patrons from Passport libraries may obtain a card at Chemeketa to check out ten items at a time. Passport borrowers must return the books at Chemeketa's library. Not all CCRLS libraries participate in the Passport program.

Length of checkout:

  • Books - 3 weeks
  • Magazines & journals - 1 week
  • Circulating media - 1 week
  • Netbooks - 4 hours or 72 hours

You may renew material up to three times if no one else has requested it:

Fines are

  • $0.25 per day for late returns
  • $0.25 per hour for late 2-hour reserves
  • $1 per hour for late 4-hour reserves
  • $1 per day for all other late reserves.

Obtaining a Library Card

  • How Can I Obtain a Chemeketa Student Card?
    • Your Chemeketa Student ID card is your library card; always bring it with you to the library
    • On the Salem campus, the Bookstore can make your free Chemeketa ID card 
    • At the Yamhill Valley campus you may obtain a Chemeketa ID card in building 1 at the front desk
    • There is a charge to replace a lost ID card
    • You can use your Chemeketa ID card for computers, check-out, and printing
    • Your ID card is valid during any term in which you are a student
  • How can I obtain a Chemeketa Employee Card?
    • Your employee ID card is your Chemeketa library card
    • You can obtain a free Chemeketa employee ID through the Public Safety Office in Building 2 on the Salem campus
    • You will need to ask your supervisor to fill out a key request form for you in advance
    • There is a charge to replace a lost ID card
    • Your employee ID card allows you to check out materials, request materials within the Summit system, request interlibrary loans, and use a student computer
  • How can an area resident obtain a Public Library Card?

    You can apply for a Public Library Card at the library that serves the place where you reside. You will need to bring  picture ID (such as a valid Oregon driver's license or Oregon ID card.)  The ID must have your current home address on it. 

    Anyone living inside Marion, Polk, or Yamhill County can get a Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service (CCRLS) card. However, there are many types of cards depending on where you live. To find out more about these cards we recommend asking your local public library.

    Important Information about Your Public Library Card:

    • Items checked out on your card are your responsibility
    • If you lose your card, please contact any CCRLS public library immediately; you will be held responsible for any items checked out. There may be a charge for replacement cards.
  • How can a student not residing in a CCRLS municipality obtain a Public Library Card?

    Students living outside the city limits or outside the Chemeketa district may take their Chemeketa Student ID and proof of class registration to a local CCRLS public library to receive a 25 item library card good for the current term. This card must be renewed each term.

    • If you lose your card, please contact any CCRLS public library immediately; you will be held responsible for any items checked out. There may be a charge for replacement cards.
  • How can a Chemeketa employee obtain a Public Library Card?

    Chemeketa employees living outside city limits or outside the Chemeketa district may take their Chemeketa ID card, proof of employment, and driver's license to a local CCRLS public library to receive a limited access library card. This card allows 10 items to be checked out, 10 holds, and can be renewed every September.

  • How can a member of the public obtain a card from Chemeketa's Library?

    Yes. Public patrons with a valid CCRLS public library card can register at the Salem campus library for a CCRLS Partners card. This card allows use of the public computers and the ability to check out books and media from the college collection. To register as a CCRLS partner, you must present picture identification and your CCRLS public library card.

    Children under 16 with a CCRLS CARE or Teen card can also obtain a CCRLS Partners Kid card. This card gives the ability to check out books from our Children's, Graphic Novel, and Adult literacy collections. This card does not allow access to computers. To register for a CCRLS Partners Kid card, parents must show picture ID and their children's public library card.

    Outside the CCRLS area? Chemeketa participates in the Oregon Library Passport program. Patrons from Passport libraries may obtain a card at Chemeketa to check out ten items at a time. Passport borrowers must return the books at Chemeketa's library. Not all CCRLS libraries participate in the Passport program.
