Work As a Student Computer Center Tutor

The Student Computer Center is always looking for knowledgeable and reliable tutors to assist students in using computer software to complete course assignments. We need tutors who have, at least, basic skills in one or more of the following:

  • Microsoft (MS) Windows
  • File Management
  • Word
  • Excel
  • PowerPoint
  • Access
  • Internet (search, retrieve info, print)
  • Programming
  • Web Design
  • Desktop Publishing

Frequently Asked Questions about Working As a Computer Tutor

  • Who can be a computer tutor?

    Anyone can be a tutor. If you enjoy working with people, sharing your knowledge, and can empathize with students, we want to hear from you.

  • Do I need to be a student in order to tutor?

    Mainly, we hire students. Occasionally, we hire non-students.

  • Do I need Federal Work Study (FWS) in order to tutor?

    Tutors are hired in the following priority order:

    • First, FWS students
    • Second, department-funded students, if funds are available
    • Third, non-students as part-time hourly employees, if no students are available
  • Can I be a volunteer tutor?

    Yes. Whether a student or community member, volunteers are a valued part of our learning environment. They often bring with them a mature outlook and life experiences that can enrich the lives of all students.

  • What are the requirements to be a tutor?

    Tutors must be:

    • Enrolled in 6 credit hours or more (students only)
    • Recommended by two instructors or have other acceptable references
    • Able to show competency in one or more software programs listed above
    • Able to communicate effectively
    • Willing to complete tutor training
