Frequently Asked Questions about Interlibrary Loan

  • What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary loan is a service through which materials not owned by Chemeketa or its partner libraries can be ordered. (Partners include CCRLS, the Chemeketa Cooperative Regional library system, and Summit, the libraries of the Orbis Cascade Alliance.)

  • What types of materials are available?

The ILL department will attempt to borrow nearly anything you request. Exceptions:

    • current-year books
    • items available from Chemeketa
    • items available from CCRLS (the Chemeketa Cooperative Regional library Service)
    • physical items available from Summit (the Orbis Cascade Alliance)
    • electronic items

Some items are more difficult to borrow and may take longer to arrive.

  • Is there a charge for ILL?
    • Chemeketa Community College does not have a service charge for Interlibrary loan
services, but will pass along any fees the lending library charges
    • Requests for loans or photocopies will be ordered first through non-charging libraries
    • If the item is not available from a free lender, and if the person requesting the item is willing, the ILL department will order the item from libraries charging a fee for loans or photocopies.
  • How do I place a request?

You can request items Chemeketa doesn't have from the Primo library search.

    • Be sure to log into the search
    • Once you are logged in, you will see tiles offering loans for articles Chemeketa does not have.

If the item you want is is not available, you can request the item by filling out the online interlibrary loan form.

  • How long does ILL take?

Allow at least 7-10 days for interlibrary loan of physical items. Sometimes materials could take longer. Delivery time is dependent on the location of the lending library, the availability of the materials, and the shipping method used by the lending library.

Most article requests are filled electronically, and wait time is relatively short.

  • How long can I keep the material?

Books and other materials' loan periods are set by the lending library. The default loan period is 84
days. The due date will be clearly marked on the loan. If you are in doubt, please consult your library account.
